So other than the lay out stinking and having to switch, the problem I'm having with Skype 5 is that I can not enter tones to get in to my voicemail or do anything once I have placed a call. Can someone please enlighten me as to how to do this? I'm running jaws 11, skype talking, and the latest jaws scripts for version 5. Any help would really be appreciated!

Um, with Skype 5, there is a way to hide/unhide the dialpad. Is that what you're talking about?

I think it is the dial pad he's talking about. How do you hide and unhide it, LDP?

Control Shift D, but its not working, it says that it can't find the conversation tool bar

OK, work around for the current issue:

(this is my work around, and I have tried it, and it seems to work- has been tested.)

OK, press alt V to go to the view menu, scroll down to the item that says phone, and press enter on that. Select your country code, punch in your number in the edit box, Or their are the buttons that you can click on of course. Onc eoyur done, press enter to dial the number. and Bam! should go through. Mine didn't go through because I did not have any Skype credit.

Thanks, but that doesn't work once the call has gone through. For example, if I want to use my bank's phone system, it requires me to enter numbers to access the system. Once the call is connected, even if I continue to enter numbers, they do not work. i wouldn't bother with this so much, but where I'm currently living has little to no cellphone access, so I have to use Skype to do these types of things.

After you have the call going simply tab tell you find dial pad. It is under add people button.11 tabs down. Hit space or inter and your tones work.

A faster method. Call the number you wish. After the call is going press control shift, and the letter D it will say dial pad active and if you do it again it will say dail pad closed. When you hear or read active then turn on the number lock, or use the numbers on top of your keyboard. I am running Skype 5.1 and current scripts and this works easy.

Thank you very much Wayne! It's working great here now as well.

AS long as you are running the latest jaws scripts for skype, ctrl+shift+d should work fine.

One thing I have been noticing is that on a call where you need to put in a lot of tones, it stops sending dtmf tones after a while. The tones play, but the ivr system doesn't recognize them. Has anyone else seen this? My apologies for replying so late.

Yes happens. I always get right to what I need using zero if it requires lots of them, but it will handle enough to get by most calls.

I actually liked Skype in it's older versions, but the newer ones are bulky and annoying, which is why I chose not to resubscribe to Skype Out and In and why I'm getting a landline. Even on the Mac, the newest version isn't as easy as it once was, and I useed to love Skype on there!

In any case, how well do the work arounds work with NVDA? Also, if I were to download the Skype talking program, what synthesizer does it use and can I disable it when in a chat? Several of my friends on there are Greek, and it's no use trying to use that software for chatting if it can't recognise what's being written. But of course, it would be helpful to use it for other things. Thanks.

Skype Talking was written with NVDA in mind. Download it, read it's help file that loads with it and you'll learn much. Smile. Get the latest versions both Skype and Skype Talking. On a Jaws machine load both Skype talking and the Jaws scripts. I sent you a special file. Read that.
